December 2018 New Home Sales
Sales of new U.S. single‐family houses in December 2018 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 621,000, according to estimates released jointly today by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
- This figure is 3.7% above the revised November rate of 599,000, but 2.4% below the December 2017 residential sales estimate of 636,000.
- An estimated total of 622,000 new homes were sold in 2018 in the U.S. This represents 1.5% above the 2017 new home sales figure of 613,000.
New Home Sales Price
The median sales price of new houses sold in December 2018 was $318,600. The average sales price was $377,000.
New Home For Sale Inventory and Months’ Supply
The seasonally‐adjusted estimate of new houses for sale in the United States at the end of December 2018 was 344,000.
This represents a supply of 6.6 months at the current sales rate.
The January 2019 U.S. new home sales report is scheduled for release on March 14, 2019.
*Data collection and processing were delayed for this indicator release due to the lapse in federal funding from December 22, 2018 through January 25, 2019. Processing and data quality were monitored throughout and response rates were consistent with normal levels.
